Biothane Leash FAQ
Which hardware finish should I choose?
Solid Brass stays looking like new with regular cleaning. Silver (Chrome-plated) and Matte Black (Zinc Alloy) trigger snaps are plated finishes that stay sharp with minimal upkeep. Aluminum and Matte Black carabiners are extremely resistant to corrosion and wear and are very light.
Heavy use on plated finishes may affect appearance over time, but won't impact performance. Rinse and dry all hardware thoroughly after any exposure to water.
What width should I choose for my dog?
For most dogs, 5/8" works great for small to medium breeds, while 3/4" is ideal for medium to large dogs or those that need a little more control.
Can I get a custom length?
Yes! Our standard leash is 5 ft, but we're happy to make a custom length. Just reach out to us before ordering — we're happy to make it happen.
Can I use this leash in saltwater or a pool?
Yes — BioThane® webbing is fully water-resistant and won't absorb moisture or most common pet and outdoor odors. The hardware is where finish matters: Solid Brass handles water well with regular cleaning. Plated finishes (Silver and Matte Black) and Solid Brass should be rinsed and dried thoroughly after any exposure to water. Prolonged saltwater contact can affect the plated finishes over time.
Is this leash right for my dog?
Our leashes are built for active, adventurous dogs, but dog safety always comes first. These leashes are best suited for dogs that walk well on leash — if your pup is an aggressive puller or needs specialized training equipment, we recommend consulting with a trainer to find the right fit.
Do I need to condition my BioThane leash?
No conditioning needed! BioThane stays flexible and strong without the need for oils or treatments.
What's the difference between a trigger snap and a carabiner?
Our trigger snap is a spring-loaded clip — quick to clip and easy to use, perfect for everyday walks. Our carabiner uses a twist-lock mechanism, offering added peace of mind for adventurous dogs.
Our trigger snaps have a breaking load of 290 pounds, and our carabiners have a breaking load of 880 pounds.
